(No BBQ Sauce) Pulled Pork
1 pork shoulder 3-3.5 lb
1 sliced onion
5 diced garlic cloves
4 T brown sugar
2 T paprika
1 T chile powder
2 t ground Ginger
1/2 t cumin
1 cup root beer or real beer
1 a large ball of tin foil.
6-8 hamburger buns (be sure to check the packaged ingredients to suit your own allergy needs)
Loosely form a piece of tin foil into a ball that’s around the size of a baseball (but no larger than a softball). Place the ball in a crock pot. The ball will act as a step for the pork so that it does not burn or stick to the bottom of the pot.
Add the onions and garlic to the crock pot and begin preparing the pork.
Rinse the pork shoulder and place it in the crock pot, on top of the foil, fat side down.
Pour the cup of root beer on top of the meat.
Mix all the spices and seasonings in a small bowl. Then pat them onto the meat side forming a nice thick layer.
Set the crock pot to the slow setting. Once the pork is ready, remove and discard the foil. While still in the crock pot, tear or shred the pork with a fork; and mix all the yummy juices and spices together.
Serve on hamburger buns as sandwiches. The kids will love this dish:-)
